What is the Matter Protocol?
Matter is a new protocol that will provide the foundation for connecting all your smart devices. The Project Connected Home Over IP (CHIP) was created with the participation of companies Ikea, Samsung SmartThings and Signify / Philips Hue to create material certification standards aimed at home appliances such as lights or thermostats that use an internet connection to perform basic tasks such as turning on/off remotely via their respective apps.
Matter is a new product that promises to be compatible with most smart devices and easily integrated into existing Zigbee networks.
On Matter’s homepage, the company has introduced a number of collaboration partners. Including Google Apple IKEA Huawei Legrand Signify… And in a completely “official” way for users to use their smart devices across platforms using official channels like IF mutt or Home Assistant
Matter also promises that consumers will in the future be able to deploy this technology through third-party systems like IFTTT, where they can create custom applets that call back to automate different functions in other apps.
What devices can work with Matter?
With Matter’s recent integration into Google Nest devices, users can expect to see it used with other popular brands like Philips Hue and WiZ. These three companies have also made announcements on their own blogs on the same topic—giving us hope that we’ll see more partnerships like this in the future!
